CHAI Weatherization Day -Volunteers & Residents needed
JewishByte Baltimore - Weatherization Day 2008 was a huge success thanks to the help of over 165 volunteers! On Sunday, November 16, 2008, over 70 senior home repair clients were assisted with a variety of yard and home maintainance and weatherization. CHAI, looking to expand on the sucess of last year, has a meaningful Mitzvah and volunteer opportunity to engage the community in Chesed for its annual Weatherization Day on Sunday November 15, 2009. The mission is to help “seniors” and less fortunate in our community prepare their homes for the upcoming winter. The assistance includes jobs like minor yard-work and raking and checking smoke-detectors…
Basically you can volunteer for either the morning or afternoon session (3 hrs) and come along as a family or alone or be part of a group to be involved with this Mitzvah.
This winter, CHAI is partnering with Baltimore City’s Department of Housing, to offer the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).
The WAP will help lower your fuel bills by 30 to 45 percent through air sealing and insulation. Not to mention keep your home more comfortable by having your furnace cleaned and tuned, and help protect the environment.
Sound good? Well our goal is to have as many eligible residents register to benefit from this Federal Stimulus Funded program.
Student-volunteers can earn community hours toward graduation.
Volunteers will meet at Yeshivat Rambam, 6300 Park Heights Avenue to receive job assignments and materials. Job sites are located throughout Northwest Baltimore City and the surrounding areas in Baltimore County.
